Collecting Blanks & Planchets can be one of the most challenging collecting areas.. Blanks (or Type 1) are the punched out metal disc before they receive a raised rim from the Upset mill, which makes them a planchet (or type 2). Which only after being struck by the dies do they become a "Coin".

   So many collectors know so very little about this subject, making them the perfect area to collect as many are still reasonably priced and have great potential growth possibilities.

   We prefer our readers to buy certified examples by PCGS, NGC or ANACS. As they weigh and check specifications of the Blanks or planchets. You could do it yourself, if you have a good scale, calipers and know how to do a Specific Gravity test! Wouldn't it be easier to let the certification companies do it and this way you won't have to do it everytime before each individual customer when it comes time to sell. Whew!!!!!!!

   Think about the difficulty of this challenge! Half cent, large cent, Three Cent silver & Nickel, Two cent, Silver dollar, SBA, Sac $ and even the American Silver Eagle Dollar (1986-current date). Are you aware one of the very hardest Blanks to come across is the current copper plated zinc cent Blank (type 1). Very few have been found and one major error dealer once offered $100 for one!

   We have seen near complete sets of planchets housed in a 19th & 20th Century plastic set holders for coins. Well after all, they are the same dimensions, making it a perfect holder for raw (non-certified) planchets.

    We believe if your looking for a market that has not yet exploded, this may be it? Blanks & Planchets could transcend both the Error hobby and any series of U.S. coins. After all would any series of coins be complete without the Unstruck planchets ?
